After spying Zac Cockrell, the bass player for Alabama Shakes (maybe you’ve heard of them), representing one of Auburn’s quaint local moons during their recent performance at Austin City Limits, we were reminded of a bit of trivia that for a site like TWER has seemed less trivial with every new household that knows the band’s name.
So yes, belated kudos to Birmingham News rock ‘n’ roll reporter and undercover Auburn fan Jeremy Burgess, who during one of the band’s 2012 South By Southwest sets discovered the Shakes’ pigskin preference, or at least frontlady Brittany Howard’s.

“Despite my Auburn fandom, I yelled ‘Roll Tide’ at the Alabama Shakes to stir things up,” Burgess tweeted.
Howard’s response: “I’m an Auburn fan.”

I did not recognize “one of Auburn’s quaint local moons” in that video.
Can you help us out?
I do know he was wearing a Waverly shirt during ACL. They played there about a year or two ago before they got big.
He was wearing a Waverly shirt made by Standard Deluxe.
They’re coming back to Austin next month. I’ll yell War Eagle at her and see if she responds in kind.
Maybe she and Jason Isbell can get a bet going with the losing team’s fan playing a show with the winner’s band…

I like Brittany and the Shakes even more now!
Wow, after living in Auburn for five years, let alone visiting it regularly my entire life, Waverly is the only part of “Metropolitan Auburn” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auburn_Metropolitan_Area) that I have never even heard of.
Funny…I had a bammer swear up and down that she’s a bama fan.
