Proud though we are, deserving though he is, it will be difficult to celebrate Gus Malzahn being named the nation’s top assistant head coach for fear that it will hasten his departure from the Plains… perhaps to become Texas’ defensive coordinator, or take a head coaching job at a school with a fanbase that will not appreciate him or his wife tweets as much as Auburn fans do.
But will he?
TWER caught up with / happened to be standing next to Gus’ daughter Kylie as the team boarded the buses for the SEC Championship Game and just straight up asked her:
Please, Gus… please.
that video wasn’t very comforting…
Yep. Bye bye Gustav. We will always love you, unless you coach for one of the following: Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State, or Ole Miss.
Please, by all means. Go to Florida just so we can be rid of Urban.
You may also go to Georgia, because they will always be our brothers from another mother.
Thank you for your service. We will remember you as we polish our MNC Trophy.
I’m not too worried. Malzahn’s rep is good enough now that he can get $1+M from Auburn and wait for a really good job. He’s not going to take an Vandy-type gig. I’d even be surprised if he went to MSU if Mullen leaves. My guess is he makes as much as many Div 1-A coaches next year or two at Auburn and waits for Georgia, Florida, Arkansas or somewhere else to open up.
I think he likes working for Chizik and living in Auburn. Auburn will pay the big bucks. I just don’t see him leaving unless it’s a really plum job.
well now he’s officially the nation’s top assistant coach!!!!! he said he’d stick around until we got a NC, i just hope he stays for another. i can’t blame him if he leaves though
AuburnJunky, couldn’t disagree with you more about Georgia. Those guys hate us and I can’t say that I feel much differently after this season.
Want proof? Check out the link below (and pretty much every other Auburn-centric article on this website):

I used to think we had a pretty friendly rivalry with UGA, but there has been Bama levels of hate coming from Athens for quite a while now.
Yeah, eff UGA, hard.
I’ve said it elsewhere, but I bet Malzahn will stick around until Arkansas comes open. Petrino’s bound to take off at some point in the not too distant future, and that’s where Malzahn’s from and all. That said, if he’s as good of a HC as he is an OC, we’re in big trouble once that happens, heh. 🙂
RW, I had to go over there and post something. New favorite team to hate.
Okay. I can’t edit, so I will take this time to officially call takesie backsies on my Georgia comment from earlier.
Wow. I went to the dawgsports site and got banned for my comment. First time I’ve ever been banned ANYWHERE. Touchy bunch. The guy that runs the site is a hothead … I remember him flipping out that our fans might take a clipping from his precious hedges.
What did you say?
We mended the fence, AuburnJunky. I am unbanned.
It was the last sentence that did it. I saw some of the comments there and got hot:
Difference
There is a difference when an athletic department WORKS WITH the NCAA and SEC (since January), sir, as in Auburn’s case. USC, Bama, etc. fought the NCAA, withheld evidence every step of the way during their recent investigations. Georgia would do well to remember that if ever they find themselves in such a bind. Lockstep, sir.
Oh and War Eagle! Why don’t you squealing, whipped dawgs start up a touch football conference and stay there, you pansies.
That’s not ban-worthy. It’s obvious that you have to tread lightly there. I have posted a few comments there, but I try hard not to go nuts on their stupid drivel lol.
