A dozen or so Auburn fans responded to Jay Jacobs’ call for a test rolling of the new wires, which were installed at Toomer’s Corner last week, in the afterglow of famously apathetic Auburn grad Jason Dufner’s PGA Championship win.
But it took a little while to take.
Unable to get into position to roll the wires, which hang mostly over the intersection of College and Magnolia, people at first rolled the small trees by the sidewalk at Toomer’s Corner. Others rolled the old eagle statues at the corner, and even the Magnolia trees in front of Biggin Hall.
Auburn pediatrician Dr. David Smalley took his family to the College Street median for a better shot at the wires. Finally, it happened.
