To anyone who thinks they met the Boss in Auburn on May 7, 1976, my apologies…

I remember this from the WEGL interview. Part of his story was that he was passing through to check Auburn out. This was a Friday and he said he was headed to Pensacola or somewhere on the coast to visit relatives for the weekend. He would be back for the concert that next Tuesday evening. It made sense at the time. WEGL came on later and admitted that they had been fooled and that was not Bruce Springsteen on the Friday interview.

I knew Bud. He took an interest in me and my motorcycle the winter quarter before he impersonated The Boss that spring. When we both lived in the TKE fraternity house. Being from New Jersey, he was exotic to this hayseed from B’ham. If you ever read this, I remember you, Bud. Auburn must have seemed like the moon to you. About 20 years after my time there, I got the chance to live and work in New Jersey for a while. So we’re even.
