Things had gotten hairy. Which is why it almost got hairy.
But thankfully Auburn won 85-75 thanks in part to standouts Eddie Johnson and Pepto Bolden who showed up for the game against Ole Miss. And by showed up, I mean literally showed up. Because for a couple of days it seemed like there was a decent chance they wouldn’t.
For the past two days, Johnson, Bolden, and Auburn’s 12 other black athletes had essentially been striking in solidarity with the three black football players who wanted to play football and grow a mustache. For Shug, that was a no-no. It turned into an uh-oh. It was this whole big thing. Until it wasn’t. Everyone came back. Then everyone got naked.
But just before that, they also beat Kentucky. Auburn started the game with 14 unanswered points. Fourteen to zip. Against Kentucky. That’s wild, cat.
Here are 80 photos from the game. And the game within the game. There was some sort of little league, YMCA, R.A. type thing at halftime. Keeping those and the washed out cheerleader photos in there. Also, if you look closely enough you can make out David Housel on the sidelines. I even think that’s Dr. Philpott next to him. Buddy Davidson’s in there too.
