In his second year on the job, Pat Dye took Auburn to its first bowl game in eight years. The Tangerine Bowl also wound up being the Tigers’ first bowl in eight years, thanks to an out-of-nowhere passing game that earned Auburn quarterback Randy Campbell (10 of 16 for 177 yards), not Boston College’s Doug Flutie, MVP honors.
