When my daughter, seven at the time, saw Cam Newton’s first Gatorade commercial, she cried foul. “That’s false advertising,” she said. “They say it’ll help Cam be better but he’s already as good as you can be.”
Same could probably be said of his latest endorsement deal. It’s not as if the Blessed Individual needs cologne. But it certainly makes sense for a perfumery to want to associate their product with the Auburn student’s natural eau de victory.
So congrats to Drakkar. According to Womens Wear Daily, which seems legit enough, Cam is the French fragrance factory’s new poster boy for their new line Drakkar Essence, which apparently smells like “new money.”
Newton’s planning to put together Drakkar Essence care packages for everyone at training camp. “So everyone who comes out of the locker room is going to smell like new money,” he said. “It’s not just the generic soap that you get in the container that’s like disinfectant. It also smells good. So I think I’ll get some brownie points for that.”
The L’Oréal folks, who license or produce or whatever Drakkar, went with an athlete apparently to recreate the success Brut had with Joe Namath.
“The Blender” also has his own clothing line.
