The Loveliest Village on the Plains is the smartest city in the state of Alabama, and the 44th smartest city in the country according to a recent study by Lumosity, a San Francisco-based company that tests people on problem solving and attention and thought processing speed and stuff.
Tuscaloosa’s nationwide rank? 164th.
Lumosity ain’t the first to recognize Auburn’s superior collective genius. A 2011 study had Auburn also topping the state in terms of “brainpower index.”

Unfortunately, this report is fatally flawed and I must ignore it. Auburn was #44 nationally, but I saw Starkville, MS, was #34.. ahead of us. WHAT?!
They must be testing the cattle
Yes, let’s attempt to disparage Auburn based on its College of Agriculture. How stunningly original. Try again, Silas.
What this article fails to mention is that Tuscaloosa may be 164, but they’re still the second smartest in Alabama… in front of Huntsville, Birmingham, Mobile, Daphne, Fairhope, etc. I’m an Auburn fan, but this seems like a stretch to make us look better than necessary.
You would think the War Eagle Reader, being from the smartest city in the state, would know how to add working hyperlinks to their articles instead of just blue text.
Is there some blue text that isn’t hyperlinked?
Starkville and Auburn are ranked highly in this metric because they are small cities where their local university probably employees the vast majority of their working residents. Being a smaller college town, the real estate costs probably price lower income, uneducated people out of living in the city limits.

Whenever the subject comes up about the state of Alabama pertaining to Auburn and Alabama, folks think that the Univ. of Alabama is close to what Forest Gump portrayed it in the movie.
