The Auburn University Board of Trustees on Friday approved a resolution to implement the redevelopment of the university’s side of Toomer’s Corner. AU will now begin selecting an architect for the project, which is currently referred to as the Auburn Oaks at Toomer’s Corner Redevelopment.
The project is expected to cast “in excess of $750,000.”
The final concept for Toomer’s 2.0 was narrowed down to two designs in February and will unveiled at the Celebrate The Tradition event at Toomer’s Corner after Auburn’s A-Day football game.
How will it be unveiled? The university isn’t saying, hinting only that it could be “dramatically.”
The two revised, alternate concepts paid special attention to retaining and enhancing the corner’s “existing character,” and retaining the 1917 gates marking the entrance to Auburn’s campus, the “themes” voted “most important to a potential redevelopment” per the more than 10,000 responses to Auburn’s online survey.
