The demolition of the historic Heart of Auburn has begun.
TWER broke the news in September that the historic hotel would be replaced by a CVS-anchored shopping center early this year.

Finally! The ugliest, worst building in Auburn comes down.
Can’t bring myself to shed a tear. That place has been a dump for decades.
Agreed
Glad to see it go, not happy about what’s to come take it’s place. A shopping center? I sure hope it doesn’t look anything like College Street south of University Drive.
I know it was a dive, but I worked here for one year as a night auditor during my freshman year at Auburn (circa 97-98).. I’ve got a few memories stored in those tired old bricks. I spent hours studying for tests and doing homework during the wee hours in the empty lobby as I worked the graveyard shift checking in the occasional weary eyed guest. I even had time to do yoga during this dead time of the night. Yes, all manner of seedy individuals stayed there, but so did upstanding out of towners who didn’t know any better or stayed in the nice suites out back. Also, the GM a the time was one of the the greatest Auburn fans of all time. I’ll miss that old place despite its dilapidated demeanor.
