Alex Schriver, a 2010 Auburn graduate, is being toasted across the conservative blogosphere today for an on-air touché vs. left-leaning TV pundit Touré, co-host of MSNBC’s new political roundtable show The Cycle. Schriver was a guest on Tuesday’s episode.
When asked to explain why, as a young voter, he isn’t a Democrat, the rising Republican star quickly countered Touré’s claims that college student and recent graduates automatically support liberal presidential candidates. It’s just the opposite, says Schriver—and he should know. The 23-year old is the National Chairman of the College Republican National Committee.
“This idea that when you’re young you’re supposed to be liberal and as you grow older you grow more conservative just isn’t the case,” Shriver said.
National Review Online called Schriver’s comeback “truly a classic of the smackdown genre.”

You know this idea that when you’re an Auburn person you’re supposed to be conservative and as you grow older you grow even more conservative just isn’t the case either.
Actually most college students aren’t political tool bags of either side, and learn to think for themselves even better after they graduate.
I understand that this is Auburn related, but for the love of all that is Holy, please don’t turn the War Eagle Reader into yet another political site. Just leave that stuff alone. I can hardly escape it on even the various AU football boards and I’m frankly sick of it all.
Agreed! The country is divided enough. No need to start these kinds of divisions between AU fans on a football blog.
Boom, roasted.
Also, I don’t think it matters what the guy said. It’s cool that an Auburn grad is on the news, and that’s why it’s posted here. TWER would post video of an Auburn grad on commercials, billboards, magazines, etc.
And any person who’s been reading TWER for more than a few months would know better than to think this is going to turn into a political blog. Come on, people.
Don’t turn it into more than it is. This kid, regardless of political views, represented himself and AU well … that’s exactly why he’s on here. I haven’t seen TWER endorse anybody, and this post wasn’t presented as an attack on either party. “REMAIN CALM. ALL IS WELL.”
Is this the dude from the AU College Republicans that stole money from the organization or the dude that got the money that was stolen from the AUCR org? Or a completely different guy?
I’m asking a serious question.
I have never watched “The Cycle” but they have a woman named Krystal Ball who is not a stripper?
I’m also asking a serious question.
Auburn graduate calls out fallacy of this guy’s argument; is ignored because the guy in the video doesn’t deal in anything but over-the-top performances and refuses to reason in a civil manner: http://pic.twitter.com/n4vugji4

“Auburn graduate calls out fallacy of this guy’s argument…”
You mean…yourself. You’re promoting *your* own argument. (Twice.) Which isn’t really calling out a fallacy as it is offering a contrary anecdote. I don’t think you’ll find knowledgeable people denying that Obamacare mandate, on average (not for every case, but for the sum of them), shifts wealth from the young to the old.
Fat Southerner is Republican; sky is blue… film at 11.
TWER featuring a clip of Alex Schriver is no different than their coverage of Robert Gibbs when he was White House Press Secretary. Both are Auburn men who have risen to the top of their fields and should be commended by their Auburn Family. Keep Calm and Carry on.
And when a democratic Auburn grad busts a right wing nut job, why isn’t that featured? one sided? WDE and 4 more years
Kudos to AuburnAlum05. It’s ridiculous that people are accusing TWER of politicizing the blog. The writers have always provided news about Auburn University, the city of Auburn and Auburn Alumni in an unbiased manner. Regardless of the profession it’s always great to see Auburn Alums rise to the top of their field.
War Eagle!
The smart, polite guy is a conservative. The smarmy jackass is the democrat.
Who’d have ever predicted that one?
