It’s that time of year again when the smell of barbecue instantly brings memories of a tailgate and daydreams of touchdowns interrupt countless history lessons. What better way to appease the desire for football season than to spend a Saturday afternoon with Auburn legend, Zac Etheridge?
Etheridge will be on-hand from noon-2 p.m. at Auburn Art in downtown Auburn Saturday. With the purchase of his signature “Keep Moving 4ward” watch, fans can get an autograph from the former Auburn safety.
The Deuce Brand watch features Auburn colors along with Etheridge’s No. 4 and his initials. A portion of the watch’s proceeds will benefit America’s Heroes Enjoying Recreation Outdoors. A HERO serves wounded veterans through various outdoor activities.
In an earlier interview, Etheridge said he chose A HERO because of the sacrifice military men and women make on a daily basis. “They go through so much and risk their lives for us,” he said. “I respect everything those men and women do.”
Etheridge may be the star attraction Saturday, but he won’t be alone. Friday, Auburn Art will announce more special guests through its Facebook and Twitter accounts. While no one is dropping names, rumor has it the signing will be worth the effort required to navigate around all the people who think they know how to park downtown. [UPDATE—Names, sweet familiar names, have been dropped: Terrell Zachery and Ryan Pugh.]
The name of Etheridge’s watch, “Keep Moving 4ward,” is a reflection of his time at Auburn. He wore No. 4 on the field, and after suffering a broken neck during a 2009 game, he fought hard to return to the field and help his team earn a BCS National Championship title. Throughout his recovery, he kept reminding himself to keep moving forward.
