Enjoying the final days of sweet September.

Friday Preview: Florida Atlantic

Friday Preview: Florida Atlantic

The Good Guys: October is coming. It’s coming fast. But first, Auburn has a home contest with Florida Atlantic that will hopefully help get the Tigers back on track. Auburn has taken the week to look itself in the mirror, and focus on improving its own game. That’s usually not the approach you’d like to [...]

Friday Preview: Clemson

Friday Preview: Clemson

The Good Guys: So far in 2011, the Auburn Tigers have simply been carry-overs from 2010. Auburn’s only existence has been as the “defending national champions,” and as momentary holders of the soon-to-be-ended nation’s longest winning streak. So far, the entirety of 2011 has been hidden in the shadows of 2010. That could all change [...]

Friday Preview: Mississippi State

Friday Preview: Mississippi State

Most aren’t giving Auburn much of a chance on Saturday.
What most see is an Auburn defense that gave up 227 rushing yards to Utah State, and an assumed potency to a Mississippi State rushing attack that romped over Memphis.
But if that’s the only match up that they’re looking at in this game — and it is — then they’re terribly mistaken.

Aggiethoughts, etc.

Aggiethoughts, etc.

First, an apology; the A-U Pre-view did not get done. Sorry. The remaining planned posts were one profiling the defense (obviously), and one wrapping up the series with a game-by-game review of the schedule and a final prediction for the season. I hated not getting to them, but I was hopeful the Utah State game [...]

The challenge for Auburn on Saturday will be to shake the shadow of 2010, and to find its own identity as a team. That’s a process that usually takes several weeks of trials, setbacks, and learning experiences, but Auburn is going to have to do that growing immediately with Mississippi State, Clemson, and the rest of the schedule looming right around the corner.

2011 A-U Pre-view: SEC, BlogPoll predictions

Part 3 of 5, I promise you. Previously: the offense, the Season of What is Possible Last year, it was cool knowing that thanks to the SEC’s ascension to the throne of skulls, Golden Flake bags, and discarded JoePa spectacles from which it rules as the sport’s 700-pound gorilla, Auburn was always going  to play [...]

2011 A-U Pre-view: The Offense

2011 A-U Pre-view: The Offense

Part 2 of now-I’m-thinking-4 or 5. Hopefully. Previously: The season of what is possible. The past two preseasons I’ve devoted an entire post to each unit of the new Auburn team, but — as the old saying goes — time, day jobs, and 11-month-olds make fools of us all. So for 2011, I’m doing just two–one [...]

2011 A-U Pre-view: The season of what is possible

2011 A-U Pre-view: The season of what is possible

Part 1 of 3. Probably. The smartest thing yet written about the Gene Chizik era of Auburn football wasn’t penned by one of the Tiger beat writers, newspaper or paysite. It wasn’t written by a national pundit descending to opine on the surprising fight shown in the 2009 team, or the endless bounty of wonders [...]

Notes from the Beat, 8/25

Believe it or not, fall camp is beginning to wind down on the Plains. The team is beginning to make the move from camp drills to actual game week preparation. Auburn had Sunday and Monday off, so they’ve had some extra energy the last two days. We’ll get right to it, but first, as always, [...]
