‘They raise’em smart at Auburn’: Auburn fan wins Tuesday’s episode of “The Price is Right” [UPDATED]

Brenda, a nice, fashionable lady with a great scream from the wonderful town of Eclectic, Ala. won the Showcase Showdown on today’s episode of “The Price is Right.”

She’ll be sharing her new sailboat and e-readers and that Jamaican vacation with her husband Floyd, who was also waiting to Come On Down. But it’s a good thing it was Brenda—”They raise’em smart at Auburn, said host Drew Cary. And we discovered as the credits rolled over his crimson shirt that Floyd is Bama fan.

Brenda isn’t the first Auburn fan to win it all on the 40-year old game show.

In 2002, Will Gaither, then a junior at Auburn, returned to Auburn from Hollywood with nearly $40,000 worth of winnings.

UPDATE: And apparently Brenda isn’t even the first Auburn fan in an Auburn shirt to win. Chase Gallimore, a news anchor for WAAY TV in Huntsville, won the Showcase Showdown while an Auburn student in 2005. And according to The Auburner’s Mark Paden, he was wearing an Auburn shirt. He talks about his appearance in his WAAY bio.

Bama fan character likes to talk about Auburn’s defense during sex in “Hart of Dixie”

Hey Bama bros—have you ever been in two-down territory with your lady, but can’t stop thinking about Nosa Eguae? Well, thanks to the latest basic cable caricature of the Heart of Dixe, now you know you’re not alone.

The most recent episode of the CW’s “Hart of Dixie,” which transplants yankee-licious Dr. Zoe Hart (Rachel Bilson) to fictional (right?) Bluebell, Ala., opens with Hart and her friend AnnaBeth trying to remember how to girl talk. AnnaBeth won the toss and got right to it.

According to AnnaBeth’s pretend blog, her husband Jake “is a big football fan,” dresses up as players for Halloween, and wanted to name their new puppy “Bear” after Bear Bryant. Probably because giving that name to a child conceived in the throes of VanGorder’s mustachioed defensive scheme just wouldn’t be right.

Octavia Spencer and Josh Hopkins (briefly but boldly) talk Auburn at the Screen Actor’s Guild Award

They’re all blending together like so many Cam Newton rookie year NFL records: Golden Globe Award nominee, SAG Award nominee, Golden Globe winner, Oscar nominee, Essence Magazine “Breakthrough Award” winner, accidentally being referred to in a TWER tweet as the Burger That Made Auburn Famous (more like a burger supreme, am I right Theo?), and now SAG Award winner. All Octavia Spencer does is win.

She wins so much we weren’t even going to write anything about her SAG swaggin’ last night. But then she blew everyone’s minds and took Cougar Town star and fellow Auburn alum (and maybe Mr. Erin Andrews) as her date. And EXTRA interviewed them on camera. And they talked about Auburn.

And that, friends, is how you get yourself on The War Eagle Reader for the millionth time in 10 days or something.

LSU failed us, darkness reigns, and suddenly we find ourselves needing to know, now more than ever, that there are still dudes in Green Bay eating burgers and wearing Auburn jerseys with that special, soon-to-be-retired number from that one brief shining moment. So thank you, Man v. Food Nation.

Ah, did you catch it? There on the left? For half of the 19th second? That’s right. No blip of orange and blue, however brief, will escape us. (And by us, in this case, we mean Preston Hornsby, who deserves the Eagle Eye Awards of Eagle Eye Awards.)

Auburn gear is apparently the latest fashion trend in extreme reality television [see: Lady Hoggers and Big Shrimpin'] and at least in terms of human consequences, it doesn’t get much more extreme then Cops and Coyotes. So it’s great to know that there’s an Auburn Man fighting “to protect America against a Mexican crime wave flooding across the fragile border.”

Check him out he prepares to rescue a dude from a drug cartel, blurred-face style!

Auburn fan in new ESPN commercial

Wonder of wonders—ESPN briefly acknowledges Auburn in its latest “It’s Not Crazy, It’s Sports” commercial, at least the extended, online-only version. A dude in an Auburn hat and sweatshirt quietly grins while a friend makes good on a lost bet by shaving off his eyebrows.

It’s not exactly promotional parity with Bama’s ripped off “Roll Tide” version, but since the 2010 Iron Bowl is likely the only game in recent memory that would have inspired so drastic a wager, we’ll still feel good about it. And hey, the preacher at the end of the Bama commercial later repented with a “War Eagle.” Punt, hegemony, punt!

The giant Bo Jackson billboard in Pretty Woman

Just when Times Square has you maybe once again kind of entertaining the idea that the pop-culture pressure cooker of dot com consciousness might have already achieved for Cam Newton in 2011 a greater celebrity than Bo Jackson’s in 1990, you’re reminded of the iconic “Ball Player” photo King Konging half of a Los Angeles high-rise in the opening credits of Pretty Woman.

We’re counting this as an Auburn pop-culture reference for the same reason we cover the hell out of Cam Newton the Carolina Panther. At least in our young minds, “Ball Player”-era Bo was still very much Auburn-era Bo. The New Adventures of Superman-era Bo? Not so much.
