A couple of weeks back it was Pat Sullivan. Now we’ve got Bo Jackson on Bob Hope’s All-American Show, 1983 and 1985. Buckle up because we’re going to ride this Heisman statue news cycle for all it’s worth. Speaking of, here are the promotional materials Auburn put on for Bo’s Heisman campaign. Cleaner, brighter, more muscle tone and wing definition, repaired beaks—the venerable ol’ eagles have returned to Toomer’s Corner. The two 350 pound marble statues were placed back atop their pillar perches at a media event Friday morning. We were there. We took video. Warm feelings all around. Before the big moment, I talked with Terry [...]
Of all the A-Days, in all the springs, in all the seasons, this is the one you would have wanted to walk into. From the May 15, 1969 issue of The Auburn Plainsman: Pat Sullivan and Terry Beasley’s performance that spring (and beyond) eventually inspired a dandy ditty dignifying the Dynamic Duo that distinguished da’ [...]
My favorite movie as a kid was the 1987 Iron Bowl and my favorite actor was Kurt Crain, because Kurt Crain and Aundray Bruce were “hoping to sack themselves an SEC title” and Kurt Crain “put the lumber” to Clay Whitehurst and Kurt Crain “knocked the ball loose. Ballgame. Ballgame.” Ballgame. Kurt Crain. (Holy flourishes [...]

In November, the marble statues were removed and sent to Washington D.C. for cleaning [...]

They look like the marks left on a tree if it’s struck by lightning, except they don’t—lightning tracks start at the top of the tree and end at the bottom. The fissures on the [...]

The statues will be covered and kept under 24-hour police guard until they’re unveiled Saturday before Auburn’s A-Day game. The bronze statues of Auburn’s Three Heismen have all been delivered to their permanent [...]
On Friday the bust of John Heisman was installed outside Jordan-Hare. Today it was a statue of one of Auburn’s Heisman Trophy winners. But which one? Pat Sullivan seems a likely guess. The statue is currently covered with a blue tarp that appears to conceal the outline of quarterback’s throwing motion; the statues were designed [...]
The statues honoring Auburn’s three Heisman Trophy winners, Pat Sullivan, Bo Jackson, and Cam Newton will be installed some time next week according to Cassie Arner, Auburn’s assistant athletic director for public relations. But how will Auburn keep the statues under wraps until they’re unveiled a few hours before next Saturday’s annual A-Day game? By [...]
