Held October 30, the event was a fundraiser for the by Auburn chapter of Engineers Without Border outreach efforts in Quesimpuco, Bolivia.

Participants could enter the tournament as a team, or as individuals. No blatching, cobbing or quaffle-pocking was allowed.

Sharp Shooting: A member of the Auburn University shooting club takes aim at competition held at Ft. Benning in February.

The next Top Shot could be an Auburn student.

Auburn senior SSgt. Adam Fountain, a shooting officer and martial arts instructor in the Auburn University Marines, as well as team commander for the Auburn ROTC Shooting Team, recently sought SGA approval for a shooting club on Auburn’s campus. A decision is expected to come later this week.

According to Fountain, who founded the club, its  main mission is to teach firearm safety and marksmanship, as well as to promote interest and awareness of firearms through recreational and competitive shooting events. After passing a basic weapons safety assessment, the club will be able to teach members ballistic terminology, basic marksmanship, as well as offering more advanced classes designed to teach about the weapon systems used.

Practices and recreational shootings will take place at various locations around Auburn, and at the Auburn Armory, the Uchee Shooting Range in the Tuskegee National Forest, Selwood Sporting Clays in Alpine, AL, and at the Dixie Trap & Skeet Club in Montgomery where members will train for shotgun competitions in trap, skeet, and possibly 5-disk events.

May we suggest a splinter group: Toomer's Patrol.

The club is open to both students and faculty members interested in seeing if they have what it takes as a sharp shooter. Club instructors come from a variety of certified backgrounds—either a civilian national marksman champion or a trained military sniper. If you join, you’ll be learning from the best.

And possibly competing against the best.

If the club is recognized by the SGA— and after that the NCAA—they will go up against shooting clubs from regional schools like UAB, Jacksonville State, Birmingham Southern, Ole Miss, and Kentucky, as well as nationally prominent teams such as Army, Alaska-Fairbanks, and West Virginia.

Here’s hoping they can bulls-eye another national championship for the good guys.

Two weeks ago, Auburn journalism major and Plainsman staffer Kelly Tsaltas, a freshman from Knoxville, deemed it her duty to carpet bomb the Greek multitude, curb-stomp its corpse, and flip it the bird as she slow-motioned shimmied into the night. She gave them the ol’ one-two to their exposed flank — the non-mandatory, mandatory dress code.

From The Plainsman:

Really? It’s 30 degrees outside, you might want to consider buying some pants. I promise your Nike shorts won’t disappear in the drawer over the winter. The Nike gods will not smite you for leaving them in your dresser for more than a day. They’ll still be there in summer, when it’s actually appropriate to wear them.

Perhaps the most disturbing thing about this trend is the amount of clothing it requires on the lower half. Underwear + Hose + Nike shorts (that have built in underwear)? That’s way too many layers for that area! Let it breeeeathe, ladies!

You boys really like your visors. You wear visors when it rains, when it’s cloudy, and if there was a tornado, the winds would take your life before you let them take your visor. If you keep this up, you will get a reverse bald spot. NOT. ATTRACTIVE.

Another puzzling Frat Boy fashion statement is the “croakie and sunglasses” look… all the time. It was definitely cloudy almost every day last week, and you boys still had your sunglasses hanging from your neck. I guess that would come in handy if the sun decided to make a three second surprise appearance. Then you could throw your sunglasses on and be all, “Bitch, yes! I prepared for this!” or something equally obnoxious.

There’s more. Her column received 96,000+ views, 41 comments (before comments were disabled), and 1,377 Facebook “likes”. There was so much response, both positive and negative, that The Plainsman felt the need to run an editorial addressing the attacks, some of which were of the personal “throw yourself off the Haley Center” variety.

Silly squabbles like these are exactly why Auburn should re-institute a dress code.

Alice Fraasa - The Snorg Tees Girl

Alice Fraasa, aka the Snorg Tees Girl, just started her senior year at Auburn. She digs Taco Tuesdays at Bodega, Yuengling beer and memories of her freshman year at The Commons.

The War Eagle Reader: How is it that you came to Auburn?

Alice Fraasa: I, for some reason, was really late in applying for colleges and one of the girls I worked with went to Kennesaw, this little community college. And I was like, it’s 20 minutes from the house, I’ll just go there. But my best friend, she was planning on going to Ole Miss … but her older sisters went here so they became huge Auburn fans. That was kind of the connection. Her family was really into Auburn, and they were the ones who kind of talked me into it. They said, “You should at least apply and see if you like it.” Well, I applied and I got in and I had never been before. I said, “Well, I’ll go to Auburn. It’s far enough away from home, it’s close enough to home.” And I came to Camp War Eagle and loved it. Luckily. That would have sucked if I didn’t. I had never seen it before. I got really lucky. It turned out really good for me.

TWER: Did you have any concept of Auburn before you came?

Fraasa: Well, I knew some older people who went here. A guy I kind of dated when I was a sophomore [in high school], but he was three years older — he’d been here for a while when I got accepted. He was the person who was really like, “This is a great place.” He’s the only person I knew who went here and I knew he loved it. I had just always heard good things about it and never anything bad. So I guess I just trusted everyone and decided, why not?

TWER: Did you grow up with any collegiate allegiance?

Fraasa: My parents went to UNC-Chapel Hill, so I grew up a fan of them. My brother went to UGA and I grew up in Atlanta, so I guess I was a Georgia fan. I didn’t really care that much.

TWER: Interesting, isn’t it, the number of kids who come here from Georgia?

Fraasa: Yeah. There weren’t that many kids from my high school. There were about five of us. Three of them were guys I was friends with and there was a girl. But by the time I got to Auburn I was so done with being high school. Like, I got tired with so many people I went to high school with halfway through my senior year, which I’m sure a lot of people are like that. But by the time I got here, I was ready to meet other people. I’m still friends with the who came here from my high school.

TWER: What did you think about Camp War Eagle?

Fraasa: I liked Camp War Eagle! Everyone, like warned me: “You’re going to hate Camp War Eagle. It’s awful. It’s the worst thing ever.” And I guess because I’d never been here before I was just in such a good mood from actually liking it and experiencing Auburn for the first time, that Camp War Eagle didn’t seem that bad to me.

TWER: You worked at Brick Oven for a while, right?

Fraasa: Yeah, I worked at Brick Oven and met all of these amazing people that weren’t in sororities or frats and that kind of changed how I saw Auburn.

TWER: Best football game?

Fraasa: My freshman year. ’06. Florida. I wasn’t even at the game. I was at a house nearby watching it on TV.

TWER: Do you promise to faithfully represent Auburn in all of your life’s endeavors?

Fraasa: I’m proud to say I go to Auburn. I like when you’re in the airport and people say “War Eagle” to you. It really does feel like family.

TWER: War Eagle.

Auburn senior Alice Fraasa, the face of SnorgTees, takes TWER on a trip down memory lane in this vintage Auburn t-shirt.

Twenty-six members of the Auburn student body were infected with measles in the spring of 1989… which doesn’t sound like a lot until you consider that only nine cases were recorded in the entire state during the previous five years.

The result? Classes canceled. Mass vaccinations administered.

The outbreak inspired a Phi Gamma “Inoculation Party ’89,” (including “BYO Vaccine” shirts) and this Tiger Rags commemoration – a droopy tiger, spots mingled with his stripes.

Twenty years later, is it likely we will see a pig/tiger hybrid (piger? tig?) in honor of the 10 students reportedly infected with Swine Flu? No? Too soon?
