He recently bought the complete series of 24. But when Sports Illustrated asked Cam which TV shows (plural) were on his DVR, he only named on: “Duck Dynasty.”
The irony!
Newton recently told Vibe the same thing (thanks again, Vibe!) in an a two-part interview that probed his pop culture proclivities. “I absolutely love watching Duck Dynasty. Those guys are great. Watching Uncle Si, and Phil, and those guys, it’s great.”
But despite his singular television habits, dude’s taste in music is as diverse as his gridiron talents. His iPod is a veritable triple threat of rap, country, and post-rock that can “put you in the right frame of mind” for any occasion.
“Music can bring about different vibes on the field, off the field, urban life, going to church, leaving church,” Newton told Vibe.
Speaking of church, that’s where Cam says his genre-crossing appreciation of music developed: “Being in church, especially being in Baptist or Pentacostal church where music can have a person on the floor catchin’ Holy Ghost!”
So what’s Cam “Freak” Newton listening to on those giant Beats By Dre headphones of his?
“Artists from Kirk Franklin, Hezekiah Walker, Donnie McClurkin, to The Fray, to Explosions In The Sky. I listen to Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Drake, Young Jeezy, Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, Flo Rida, Future, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Maxwell. I can go to Kenny Chesney if I want to go country – sheesh, man!”
Sheesh, man indeed.
Newton said he creates a unique playlist for each game–before each football game. Cam in a football player. Cam is not a ballerina.
“There’s no similarity between football and ballet, so this ain’t ballet music being played on the field. I’m pumping something that’s going to put me in a frame of mind to go to war, and something that’s very high tempo and high beat.”
And how are the songs lyrically? Let’s just say there’s probably a lot of rhyming with “duck.”
“They’re very… explicit.”

A-S-A-A-PLEASE!
I love Cam as much as any Auburn fan and grad, but can we not turn the site into the CamNewtonMetaReader.com? I know it’s difficult to come up with new content so regularly, as y’all are perfect at doing, but it just seems so forced sometimes.
Why not try recycling older articles? Digging into the site to find older stories always seems to make me lose an hour or two, and is certainly why I have donated money before because I love the content and history of Auburn.
Take the suggestion with a grain of salt. I love what y’all do.
