Well, they’re officially available for pre-order.
And if the two trailers Flashlight Media Group are allowing us to post—the first for “Punt Bama Punt,” the second for “Title Run”—are any indication of how the rest of the Defining Moments: Auburn series turns out, then yeah, you’ll probably want to go ahead and get on that.
Heck, we’d pay $1,716 dollars just for the never-before-seen footage of the ’72 Iron Bowl alone:
And something tells us that once you see it, “Title Run” will pretty much become the only way you can get that feeling again… no offense, YouTube:
We imagine the trailer for “Over The Top” will be over the top.

I was in the historical collections section of RBD earlier today inquiring about some old Jim Fyffe audio (I wanted to hear a few of the games that he called because I never got to listen to him personally), and they said that because of this documentary, they’d have some games on video – including Punt Bama Punt – now on digital record instead of film reels. This means that they’d hopefully be available to borrow once they’re in the library’s possession.
Wow. That ’72 Iron Bowl looks amazing. Did they get James Cameron to recreate it in 3d or something?
Was just telling my fiance about how when I was a kid I’d run into the other room w/out the tv and turn on the radio whenever Auburn was close to scoring so I could hear Jim Fyffe yell – to a little kid it was more fun than watching the score.
Luke, Punt Bama Punt was Gary Sanders and Gusty Yearout. It was before Fyffe started doing AU games.
You learn something new every day, I suppose! When did Fyffe come to Auburn?
TWER, Any chance you can get us a promo code?
Jim Fyffe arrived sometime in the early 80s. His signature call evolved over time. It didn’t start being as exciting as what we all recognize.
Wasn’t Fyffe’s first season also Dye’s?
Not sure, but I think I’ve read that the “Touchdown Auburn” call originated way, way back and Fyffe revived it. He definitely did it proud. According to Wikipedia, his first year was Dye’s first year,1981.

Placing my order now. Wish I could see the full version right now! Looks amazing!!
Any idea about when it will be shipping? I was charged for it over a month ago. I understand it was a pre-order, but didn’t expect to be charged for it until it shipped.
Packed up somewhere (although I may have given it back to my dad, who really owned it) I have an old vinyl-sheet-on-cardboard 45-sized but 33+1/3-speed record that the alumni association sent out to all the members after the 17-16 game. I remember well listening to Gusty Yearout screaming in the background as Gary Sanders said “IT IS BLOCKED!!!”
Actually, the front cover of that record said “Instant Replay” (refering to the two almost identical plays by Newton and Wagner), which was always the “title” of that particular game for me until I started seeing “Punt Bama Punt” everywhere else.
Michael Val
(who originally, as a kid, thought the record said “instant replay” because it was a transcription of the radio broadcast)
