Local keepers of the ska-punk faith, Blame Sydney, just a released a video for their song “How To Start Again”. Our own Zac Henderson helped with some of the camera work. And while I wish it had been shot an establishment not named Bama Lanes, the facts remain: bowling is ska as hell and they’re doing Auburn proud.

Now if only they could find a house to rock with a floor they could cave in, ’95-style (someone remind which band it was — The Peeps from Huntsville?)
In the meantime, catch them at The Independent, where they will almost certainly be playing sometime soon.
Wasn’t it Sub-terrific Chug-a-Lug, or the Whitey Herzogs (from Decatur) that caused the cave-in? I remember being out in the backyard of the house when it happened.
Could have been… I always heard it was a ska band, though — and I’ve seen some picture of dudes in suits said to have been taken at that show (during the set). I swear someone telling me it was the Peeps. The Chicklettes wrote a song about that night.
Ska band from Atlanta or Birmingham–The Go Steadys?
It was The Gossips from Birmingham. They were playing as part of a sampler show with four or five other bands—mostly Birmingham kids— that night.
Yep. The Gossips.
Wow, thanks for the publicity, it means a lot. Zac Henderson, Blame Sydney!, Scott Wilkerson, Colin Macdougall, and the Weavers really brought it together.
the herzogs caved the floor in 2000. theres a song about it on their last record.
Toothless caved a floor in 95. House on Ross across from the Police Dept.
Yeah, Eric (Kammerud, I assume) is right. It was The Gossips from B’ham that caved in our floor at “The House” (next to Spectrum). The Whitey Herzogs caved in the floor at John Sharp’s house on Bragg Ave.
Just wanted to say I was there as well! First time I’d heard a ska band, probably my first or second house show ever. I was a freshman in ’95. Very Fresh.
Loved it. I remember they were all in grey sports jackets and black pants and maybe a tie.. and lots of horns, trumpets, etc. oh. Ska makes you jump up and down, so yeah, the floor broke.
Didn’t Mustard plug cave a floor in around 1993/
