Okay after re-thinking this, if you want to say 2009 on-field was a 'C' then I can dig it, as long as we can agree that a 'C' is a HUGE step forward from the flaming pile of 'F' we got out of the 2008 edition. And that a 'C' was actually pretty pleasing considering the trajectory of the program at this point.

easy,
C'mon man!

If you put a 5-star chef in a Waffle House kitchen would you give him a 'C' if he serves you 3-star food? You have to take into account what he has to work with.

Chizik was handed a bunch of players who are well below the level of talent Auburn is accustomed to and who had just gone 5-7. That team had less confidence than Maverick did after Goose died. Then he had to teach them yet another system on BOTH sides of the ball.

Don't you think succeeding in 2009 was a lot harder than it's going to be in 2010? If not, you are smoking crack.

Totally agree with all the things you guys said. If we were taking off-field results/confidence into account, Chizik would have an easy A.

Thanks for the kind words as well.

Jerry,

I'm just so glad to have a coach with a PLAN again. I believe Tuberville had one until late 2005 or so, but then it seemed to go right out the window.

My expereince in life is that a plan and set of core principles will always help you leverage your efforts into success. The plan doesn't have to be revolutionary; it just has to keep you grounded and gives you a base to return to when things go wrong. Flying by the seat of your pants will eventually land you behind the eight ball.

Chizik has planned out exactly the type of players and coaches he wants. And he knows exactly how he wants to develop young as people as well as football players.

Now please don't take that last statement as purely moralistic. I truly believe that if you have a good head on your shoulders, you'll have an advantage over equally talented competition in whatever it is you do -- be it football, school, business, or basket weaving.

Best thing Chizik has done me was to get to believe in Auburn again. After all the crap we all went through in 2008, Tubby's departure, the crazy coaching search, and all the bad press from his hiring. Chiz kept his mouth shut, put his head down, and got work. After he had earned alittle repect...he did take any credit for himself. He start selling the team, recruits, and even the fans on what it means to be Auburn men and women.
War Damn Eagle Coach Chiz! I really like you...there's alittle matter of winning that game the day after Thanksgiving before I'm going to say I LOVE you. As Terry Bowden famously said,"That's the way it is, that's the way it should be." But you are a lot closer than the Bammers want to admit. How long it going to Chizik to beat Alabama and Saban? SIXTY MINUTES (not 58)!

Jerry,
The single best example of "team" and "unity" came during those weeks when we were losing on the field, and not in practice, or the locker room for that matter. The team kept pluggin away and never quit.
The players quotes were always positive, and never once questioned that the train would get back on track.
The shining example would be beating a good "Ol Miss squad with an early kickoff to boot. The early kickoff has been a bugaboo. Not against the Rebs.
My score card on Chizik doesn't read A+ either, but one hell of a job he did.
The entire staff gets kudos, Chizik get an "atta boy"!

Nice series of reports on the staff, you my fellow follower of the Orange and Blue get an A+.
WAR EAGLE!
