Snow. Anders Bookstore. February 1973.

Mr. Anders Snow Man

The weather rumors (I swear I just saw flurries) brought this photo to mind, taken in front of Anders Bookstore after the legendary snow of ’73.

(Note the Punt, Bama, Punt bumper sticker on the window.)

Stories please.

It was the spring of 1999 or 2000 — this took place in one of my senior years — when there was a forecast of snow on the plain. The university canceled classes *the day before* the precipitation event.*

So there everyone was, with nothing to do this one night or the next day. A friend very famously began calling random 844 numbers until he found a “cute-sounding” girl to talk to. Didn’t know her. She didn’t know him. But, in a testament to his prowess, he was able to talk her into a bar meeting the upcoming weekend.

On which, of course, he promptly stood her up.**

(If you are her, I apologize on his behalf.)

Anyway, the next morning: No snow. No flakes had flung themselves to the ground. No flurries had fallen from the heavens. No tiny puddles of crisp moist snow flurry death.

*And for context, they canceled classes just hours (!!!) before Hurricane Opal landed in the fall of 1995.

**This story is true and ridiculous. And while you may think it horrible, rest assured that this can never happen again. Facebook is a great equalizer.

That was really weird. I was in school then, supposedly it had never snowed at Auburn but it snowed something like 6 inches. I’m not talking tiny little flurries, I’m talking a bunch of snow. Oddly after the snow is was like 50-60 degrees the next day and it was all gone almost immediately. We had a great touch football game/snowball fight that day.
