I miss the old paper shakers. I remember they got busted out once during my 4 years in Auburn as a student. 2004 against Georgia. What a glorious day.

They just go hand in hand with the cheerleaders in the rugby shirts.

Man, I wish someone would hand out paper shakers, the kind with the wooden sticks. Not only do they make a huge orange and blue haze, they are also perfect for stirring drinks…..for some reason, a wooden stick that has fallen on the concourse/men’s room floor seems more hygienic than a plastic one.

  3. J.M. says:

The paper shakers had a better sound to them too!

  4. el Carg says:

JM totally agree with the better sound.

I liked stirring the drinks and getting the taste of Bourbon when you nervously chew on the shakee during a tight fourth quarter.

Anyone else call a bourbon and coke a Jordan-Hare?

Drink one large coke down one third of the way and fill with bourbon — my favorite was Evan Williams

Whenever you get one-third down, repeat until you are out of liquor or pass out.

As a kid (in the 70′), I remember absentmindedly sucking on a paper shaker and having it turn my mouth blue… gross.

  6. Jonesy says:

    Jordan-Hare Special = 2 parts coke, 1 part bourbon

Jordan-Hare Special Dammit = 1 part coke, 1 part bourbon

  7. Thor says:

I still have two of the paper shakers from that 04 Georgia game Jonesy, I also have the shiny orange ones they gave out once but have no idea what game that was for. Anyone remember?

When I got to the student section for the 1989 Iron Bowl, the rolling sea of shaker’s had created a surreal bluish haze… Like some kind of Auburn dream sequence. Normally we were lucky to get a single shaker. But that day it seemed like everyone had two or more. The sweet smell of bourbon was thick on the breeze and Jordan-Hare felt like a current of electricity connected the whole stadium. Auburn was going to win that day. There was no doubt in my mind. I’ve never felt anything like that before or since.
