Clemson, Notre Dame, Purdue. Miami, Vanderbilt, Wake, Duke, Cincy, SMU, Stanford, BYU et al. What do these colleges have in common? They do not have their state in their name. Auburn included. Not having the state in the name makes you special, unique. Auburn has the academic respect (39th in public college rankings). It has the erollment (25,000). It has an average freshman ACT score of 26.2. The fact is, we are not going to sell our soul and pay a head football coach $5,000,000 per year to bring us a championship. Any success we obtain in football will be achieved the old fashioned way, as Smith Barney said. We earn it!
