Okay. So I just got home from running some errands with the wife and kids, and flip in the Ole Miss - LSU game, and the third quarter is nearly over.

Ole Miss punts, and Breaux leaps up to snag the punt after the first bounce. He's in midair, and he has to reach backward to snag the ball. At it's deepest point, the ball is clearly across the plane of the goal line. He comes down, and both feet plant between the one and the goal line. His momentum carries him into the end zone, so again the ball crosses the plane, but he tosses it back before any part of his body touches in the end zone.

So Gary repeats himself multiple times to get the point across that it doesn't matter where the player's body is, but only whether the ball crossed the plane. Verne insists the ball did not cross the plane, while Gary says he is sure that it did, and he expects a review of the call.

LSU takes the field, quick snap the ball, and the quarterback keeps to push out about two yards from their own end zone. Gary admires LSU's intelligence, and the fact that they hurried up to prevent a review. Of course, I'm not Gary or Verne, so I realize that had the play been reviewed and reversed, LSU would have had the ball on the 20.

This, to me, is a microcosm of Verne and Gary. Do the CBS executives not watch football games?
