Sully, if I’m not mistaken I have seen orange-and-blue Auburn equivalents. But not many. It just doesn’t work the way the Hog hat does.

I also enjoy these ‘from the enemy camp’ views. One story about the ‘hog hat’:

I attended the Armor Officer’s Basic course at Fort Knox in the mid 80s and one of the friends I made there was an Arkansas alumni. On the last day of field exercises, he replaced his CVC (Combat Vehicle Crewmember) helmet shell with a modified ‘hog hat’ while it was his turn as tank commander.

Awesome is such an inadequate word for describing what it looked like on top of a 63-ton vehicle rumbling across open ground in the attack. I could only answer with an orange and blue Auburn bar towel on my antenna. Not the same, by a long shot, though the towel became my ‘leader’s pennant’ for the remaining seven years I was in armored vehicles. By the time I hauled it down for the last time, it was in shreads.

I still envy the Arkansas fans for the best hats in the SEC – and no, I don’t want to ever see a navy and orange ‘Tiger Hat’ like those purple and yellow unspeakables I see LSU fans wear now and again.
