Hooray for depth! : Harry Adams dismissed

Best of luck, Harry. (If the identical helmet striping confuses you--stupid doppelganger Skyhawks--he's the one on the right.)

Best of luck, Harry. (If the identical helmet striping confuses you--stupid doppelganger Skyhawks--he's the one on the right.)

They’re dropping away like spoiled children in a madman’s candy factory, I tells ya:

Cornerback Harry Adams has been dismissed from the football team for an unspecified violation of team rules, an Auburn spokesman confirmed today …

Adams’ departure leaves the Tigers with three scholarship players who are full-time cornerbacks: Walt McFadden, Neiko Thorpe and Demond Washington.

Three! Three cornerbacks! It’s a magic number!

Actually, Adams’ departure maybe isn’t that ginormous in terms of the depth chart–if any of the three corners can’t stay on the field, Zac Etheridge will probably move over to CB to make room for Mike Slade, who’s never exactly lit the field up when he’s entered the game but also hasn’t come across as disaster-waiting-to-happen, either. D’Antoine Hood also showed some promise as a true freshman last year; if his high ankle sprain isn’t bothering him the way it did in fall practice, he could also fill in in a pinch.

Then again–three scholarship cornerbacks! Wheeeee!

Even given the possible effects on the field from Adams’ departure, perhaps the larger story here, though, is this one: if you want to stay on Gene Chizik’s football team, do not violate team rules. Gene Chizik does not like it when you violate the team’s rules, does not like it at all. At. All.

Pshaw, we didn’t need defensive players anyway. We’ve got 24 now who can travel – that’s enough to field two defenses simultaneously! Plus two.

On the bright side, Chizik isn’t willing to sacrifice discipline for the depth chart. And I’m sure (hoping desperately) that this indicates confidence in our ability to recruit.

I know we are never going to find out since Chizik still lists guys with ruptured Achilles as “day to day”, but what are these rules that these kids are violating? I trust it is something agregious like robbing a bank, setting up a international drug cartel, or plotting to overthrow a Central American government. If it is for not tieing their shoelaces using the “bunny ear method”, then me thinks we have bigger issues here.

What’s really scary is the depth NEXT year.

But given current recruiting trends, 2012 should be nice though.

Good thing the Mayan calendar gives us until December. We may be having another undefeaded season…just in time for the world to end. Honestly, would Auburn do it any other way?

Overthrowing Central American governments is no longer a violation of team rules.

    But staying out after curfew…

Didn’t have his helmet and shoes lined up right in his locker…and I hear he left the cap off the toothpaste. Coach Chiz hates that.

I hate when we lose, and I hate losing players, but I must admit, it has always really made me proud to know that our coaches value discipline and play with honor. It seems like no matter what happens, we’ll ALWAYS have that over Bama.

I am reminded of Sun Tzu’s story about the concubines.

War Eagle, Coach. Keep it up.
