TWER’s Weekend Viewing Guide

We won this one too. 3-0.

Colorado @ West Virginia
Line: ‘Eers favored by 17 (opened at 15)
Thursday 6:30 CDT on ESPN

The Mountaineers had a week off to stew over the loss to Auburn, and Colorado had a week off to get the train back on the tracks before the trip to Morgantown. The Buffs have been terrible this year, favored in all three of their games, and have stumbled out of the gates at 1-2. Auburn fans know what West Virginia has in the holster and they know how tough it is to win in Morgantown. The couches burn into Friday morning: WVU 41 Colorado 10

Nothing worthy tonight so expand your horizons and try one of the new beers we now gloriously have the freedom to buy in this state.

Yawn through the morning. Only one game of note since Michigan @ Michigan State is on the Big 10 network, and I don’t know anyone who gets that in the South. The afternoon games are also limited so if you are driving up to Knoxville you won’t miss much. [Ed. note: Tickets still available for the game in Knoxville. C’mon Tiger fans! Snatch ’em up, drive and show them what real fans are made of!!!]

Alabama @ Kentucky
Line: Bama favored by 15
Saturday 11:21 CDT on FOX

The Tide looked good against Arkansas and could have easily beat the Hogs by two more TDs. Kentucky looked good the first two weeks but let a bad Louisville team hang around. The Wildcats then put up no fight against Florida. I thought the spread would be bigger, and there hasn’t been much movement. Does Vegas know something? I say the Tide rolls again, 28-7, in Lexington.

Washington @ Notre Dame
Line:Notre Dame favored by 13
Saturday 2:30 CDT on NBC

The Huskies flopped against Stanford last week after their huge upset of USC. Notre Dame has gotten lucky in their last two wins against Michigan State and Purdue. If this game were in the Pacific Northwest I’d give Washington a shot, but in South Bend I think just keep it close (if only Jake Locker played defense too!). The Fighting Irish win 31-27

#4 LSU @ #18 Georgia
Line: Georgia favored by 3 (started as a pick ’em)
Saturday 2:30 CDT on CBS

I don’t know what to think of either team. The Bulldogs have struggled in every game this year, and LSU is a good play call away from losing to Mississippi State last week. This one is a tossup, but I’ll take the home team, 34-31.

#25 Georgia Tech @ Mississippi State
Line: Tech favored by 6 (up from 4)
6:30 CDT on CSS

I know Auburn fans will be pulling hard for State in this one, but the Yellow Jackets are too much for the Bulldogs. I like the Ramblin’ Wreck controlling the clock and State in this one, 28-17.

Texas A&M vs. Arkansas in Cowboys Stadium
Line: Hogs favored by 1
6:30 CDT on ESPN2

We don’t know a lot about A&M, but they are putting up big yardage against some bad teams, but so did Arkansas before they played a real team. Because of that, the Hogs are more prepared for this game than the Aggies, Arkansas 41 TAMU 17.

Auburn @ Tennessee
Line: Vols favored by 1.5 (down from 3)
6:45 CDT on ESPN

Tennessee gave up 319 yards passing to Ohio last week and are beset by injuries on defense, so Auburn QB Chris Todd could have a very nice day. Look for Auburn to try to run first on the Vols and then go to the air. Tennessee’s offense has been pretty bad and even UT fans are saying Crompton throws 3 picks. Tennessee gets most of their yards on the ground but cannot keep up with the good guys. Auburn wins, 31-10.

#7 USC @ #24 California
Line: Trojans favored by 4
7 CDT on ABC (but you’ll probably get the other ABC game)

Conventional wisdom says that USC wins this one since they have already lost their Pac-10 game this year. Cal struggled to put away Minnesota and then got torched by an Oregon Duck team that looked as bad as possible opening week. So USC should win this handily, right? These are not your older brother’s Trojans, and I think a sleeping bear got jolted awake last week in Eugene. Cal wins, 31-20

#8 Oklahoma @ #17 Miami
Line: Sooners favored by 7
7 CDT also on ABC

Oklahoma is a value-sized favorite on the road this week with question marks about Sam Bradford. Miami fell apart last week on the road in the rain and got embarrassed by Virginia Tech. This is where we find out what kind of coach that Randy Shannon is. I am going to go way out on a limb and say the wrong team is favored. Miami wins, 28-20
